Surf/Brand Hand Plane Guide
Surf-Brand hand planes are hand shaped on the north coast of NSW from Australian plantation grown Paulownia Timber & are finished with a uv resistant environmentally friendly, water based clear finish. Paulownia is chosen because it is a fine grained, rot resistant timber.
ADJUSTING THE HAND STRAP
The hand strap is fully adjustable to fit your hand with a few simple steps.
- Start on the right hand side of the neoprene strap cover & roll it all the way back to the left (just like rolling off your wetsuit).
- This will reveal the adjustable Velcro handstrap, adjust the Velcro to your size & re seal it nice n smooth.
- Roll the neoprene cover back to its original position & your sorted.
- Go & get barrelled :)
Just like surfboards. It depends on your size, skill & the waves you want to ride.
Bigger boards are the best all rounders. They work in a wider variety of waves & provide more floatation across flat sections.
Smaller boards come alive in more powerful & hollower waves, less floatation, tighter lines & better performance in the barrel.
The main shape ingredient the concave bottom to give lift & speed, light at the nose entry, accelerating out through the tail.
Shapes - Again just like surfboards, the combination of bottom & tail shapes all give subtle performance differences that you can feel.
Pick what looks right to you & your set.
Going left – board on your left hand.
Going right – board on your right hand.
Get some good flippers & get in the water.

There's lots to see on vimeo & you tube.
Treat your hand plane like your surfboard.
Don't 'drop it, it will 'ding'.
Rinse it off in fresh water after your surf & don't leave it outside in the sun all day.
